Tips For Making Dress Shopping Go As Smoothly As Possible

Posted on: 21 December 2015

Shopping for a wedding dress can be a really enjoyable experience, but for many people it can also be a stressful experience. Here are some tips for making your wedding dress shopping go as smoothly as possible.

1. Have Half of Your Wedding Dress Budget Available to You When You Start Shopping

If you don't have the full amount of money that you are planning on spending on your dress set aside and available, you are going to want to make sure that you have at least half of that money available when you start dress shopping. This is because many wedding dress shops require some sort of deposit on the dress, often up to fifty percent of the dress's price. If you don't have the money on you or the room on your credit card, then you are not going to be able to reserve the dress of your dreams and might end up losing it to another bride. Having half of your dress money with you will help reduce the stress.

2. Start At Least Nine Months Before the Date of Your Wedding

Starting this early will allow you to have time to find a perfect dress, send it to the designer for any alterations that you might need, receive the dress back from the designer, and then repeat the process if more alterations are still needed. By starting early, you can relax about having your dress altered and feel confident that it is going to be ready in time.

3. Bring One or Two People

Don't bring a ton of people to your fittings. You want to make sure that you get just the right amount of input, rather than a barrage of different opinions that could lead to you feeling overwhelmed or insecure. Bring your closest friends and family only.

4. Go During the Week

If you get stressed out by large crowds, consider trying to schedule your fitting at the bridal shops during the week. People will end up being at work and therefore the shops will be less busy. This will allow you to go through the gowns in peace and not feel so rushed.

5. Know the Basic Dress Silhouettes

Have a file on your phone that has examples of wedding dress types, such as Empire Dresses and A-Line dresses so that you can refer to them when trying to tell the person at the bridal shop who is helping you the type of dress that you are looking for, using the correct lingo. This will help you get what you want more quickly.

Teaching Your Children Values

When I started volunteering at a local school, I realized that there were a few kids who obviously didn't learn key values at home. They had a hard time being respectful to others and making friends, and I found myself wondering how to make my own family better. Each and every day, I would take mental notes at school and then work with my own family to make some changes. We started talking to each other more politely and focusing on honesty and integrity. This blog is all about improving your relationships with your kids and spouse and how to instill key values.
